Warm Up Your Winter: A Step-by-Step Recipe for Turkey Chili

This turkey chili recipe is perfect for warming you on a cold winter evening. The recipe is easy to follow, and the ingredient list is straightforward.

To make this delicious chili, start by heating a tablespoon of olive oil in a large pan. Add 2 pounds of ground turkey to the pan and brown the meat. The turkey is lean, so there’s no need to drain the meat from the grease. Once the turkey is cooked through, add in 2 cups of chopped onions, 2 tablespoons of chopped garlic, 1 large sweet red pepper, chopped, 1 cup of celery, chopped, and 1-2 jalapenos, deveined and finely chopped (depending on your heat preference).

Next, add 1 tablespoon of dried oregano, 2 bay leaves, 3 tablespoons of chili powder, and 2 teaspoons of ground cumin to the pan. Stir well and let the spices cook for 5 minutes. Then, add in 3 cups of chicken broth, salt, and pepper to taste. Bring the chili to a simmer and let it cook for 20 minutes.

Finally, add in 2 (15-ounce) cans of kidney beans (one light and one dark) and cook, stirring occasionally, for at least 10 minutes. Once the chili is done, it’s ready to be served. To make it even more delicious, top it off with 2 cups of shredded Cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and a slice of lime for garnish (optional). Serve this turkey chili with a side of warm crusty bread or a bowl of rice and enjoy a hearty and comforting meal!

Mixing It Up

If you want to add some bigger, bold flavors to your turkey chili recipe, there are several ways. One option is adding spices to the recipe, such as cayenne pepper or smoked paprika. Another way is to add different types of beans, such as black beans or pinto beans, to add a different texture and flavor to the chili. You can also add different types of vegetables, such as sweet potatoes or zucchini, to add more depth to the dish. Finally, you can top the chili with different types of cheese, such as pepper jack or queso fresco, or add a dollop of sour cream or a squeeze of lime juice to add a touch of acidity. You can create a genuinely unique chili by experimenting with different ingredients and flavor combinations.
